This is an excellent example of the power of CMS Made Simple and Calguy's e-Commerce modules. Very elegant. From the designer's submission in the CMSMS Show Off thread at the CMSMS forum. The designer notes that the 'Course Search' just uses the standard Products search functionality with some development of the template using Smarty.
